Preliminary Exercise 3B: Introduction to Genre Conventions Bubble Organizer

Genre in film, are the categories that organize films based on the criteria of their setting, characters, plot, mood, tone, theme. Genre is important to the audience who is viewing the film because it gives the audience a sense of understanding on what kind of movie it is and what is expected. Three film genre's that I'm interested in are horror, thriller, and action. Horror is a genre that is meant to scare, frighten, shock, and repulse the audience. Thriller is a genre that is a type of mystery genre that is action-packed and full of the emotions of fear, tension, and anxiety. Action is a genre that is fast-paced and filled with fighting scenes, chase scenes, and slow-motion shots. I'm interested in these genres because I find them more entertaining then romance or drama films.

The type of media text that is being created is a poster. It's supposed to engage my audience by showing them the different components of the genre horror. Some directions of the assignment was to create a bubble diagram and to pick a genre to list what the components of that genre are in little bubbles connected to the main one containing the genre we chose. In this lesson I learned that there are a lot of little things consisted in a film that make it a specific genre. In this assignment I worked with Michelle C. We separated the work in order to finish the assignment, for example, one would look up the information, and the other would write it out.
